Area Schools Bring Home TOC Titles

Three area junior high boys basketball squads brought home first place banners from the 42nd annual Crescent City Jaycees Tournament of Champions last weekend.

Rolling Hills, Franklin and Forest Lake Christian all won their respective divisions while Weimar Hills grabbed the consolation crown of its division.

Here’s a recap of the tourney action:

Bengals Win Crown; Finish 39-1

Rolling Hills Middle School of El Dorado Hills capped an outstanding 2009-10 boys basketball season by defeating Mt. View of Redding 46-41 last Saturday in the championship game of the AAA division in the 42nd annual Crescent City Jaycees Tournament of Champions.

Rolling Hills, the tournament’s No. 1 seed in the large school division, defeated Marsh of Chico and Sequoia of Redding in the preliminary rounds before outlasting Mt. View in the finals.

Names to the all-tournament squad for the Bengals were Austin Root and Grant Dean while Tyler Jennings was selected as the tourney’s MVP  

Rolling Hills finished the season with a record of 39-1.

Franklin Wins AA

Franklin of Loomis defeated Weaverville, 53-31, in Saturday’s championship game of the Crescent City TOC AA division.

Danny Becker’s 14 points, 13 from Reagan Hime and 10 by Michael Moore led the winning effort by the Trojans.

In the semi-finals, Franklin fought back from an early deficit to defeat Azalea from Brookings, Oregon, 58-32. Billy Rockefeller tallied 16 points, Conner Drake added 14 and Becker swished 11 for the Trojans.

All tourney picks for Franklin were Jahaan Nargussi and Michael Moore while Becker was selected as the MVP.

In other tourney notes, Rockefeller finished in third place in the hoop shoot competition.

Forest Lake Wins B-1 Title

Forest Lake’s Falcons defeated Anderson Valley of Boonville, 51-42, on Saturday to win the Crescent City TOC B-1 division.

Forest Lake had defeated Pacific Union of Arcata, 41-31, in the semi-finals earlier on Saturday.

Chase Augustino of Forest Lake was selected as the MVP of the B-1 divisionn. He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Jacob Yarborough and Luke Jordan. 

Weimar Hills Takes AA Consolation

Weimar Hills’ 8th grade boys team bounced back from a tough first round loss to post a pair of wins and take home consolation honors from the AA division at the Crescent City TOC.

In Saturday’s consolation game, Weimar Hills defeated Grant from Shasta County, 51-21 behind 18 points from Michael Wilson, 12 by Jack Baldoni and fine all-around efforts from Kevin Zachman, Chris Harshman and Cole Joyce.

Weimar Hills had won its second round game earlier on Saturday by defeating Suislaw of Florence, Oregon, 47-45 in overtime. Baldoni finished with 18 points to lead the Warriors. Joyce and Wilson followed with eight points each while Harshman added seven and Jordan Balser four.

Wilson of Weimar Hills also won the hoop shoot competition while the school finished third in the poster competition.

Weimar Hills landed Joyce and Baldoni on the all-tourney squad. The Warriors finished the season with a record of 28-6.
