SFLL 9-10s Take Opener

The Sierra Foothill Little League 9-10 All-Star baseball team was clicking on all cylinders Tuesday night.

Playing their District 11 Area II tournament opener at Grass Valley's Condon Park, the SFLL squad bested Penn Valley, 11-1, to advance to tonight's winner's bracket second round action.

"It was a real team effortt," said SFLL manager Tom Redfern. "All of our kids did a super job."

The SFLL contingent came out swinging with a big first inning and then relied on the strong pitching of J.T. Hobbs who fired- a four-inning no-hitter as the tournament's 10-run mercy rule was invoked.

Supplying the batwork for the SFLL Stars were Mason Ahrens who ripped a triple, Luke Baggett and Mark Sassarini who both added doubles, Dakota Redfern who added two key hits and Hobbs who aided his own cause with another big rap.

The SFLL defense also shined with nifty plays being turned in by Redfern at shortstop, Logan McGlothlan and Nate Sawi.

SFLL's 9-10s will play their second tournament game in Grass Valley starting at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The SFLL team will play the winner of another first round game played last night.
