SYFC Roundup: NU Jr. Midgets Win; BR Midgets Nipped
A tight defensive struggle turned Nevada Union’s way in the fourth quarter last Sunday has the Jr. Miners’ Jr. Midget squad pounded out a hard fought 14-0 win over Antelope at Hooper Stadium.
Tied 0-0 at halftime, the Jr. Miners used a short run by Ian Davis and Jason Murray’s fumble recovery in the end zone for what proved to be the contest’s lone two touchdowns.
Nevada Union’s defense was tough throughout as Davis colletced seven tackles, Murray finished with six and Elliot Roberts contributed a pair of sacks.
In addition, Gareth Noxon had a pass interception and Mo Vieves added a sack.
In other NU scores from last weekend, Antelope notched wins in the Mighty Mites, 38-0, Jr. Peewees, 39-0; Peewees, 31-13 and Midgets, 44-19.
Nevada Union plays the Whitney Jr. Wildcats at Whitney High in Rocklin on Saturday.
Woodcreek Midgets 22 Bear River 16 – In another well-played game, the Jr. Bruins and Timberwolves battled to a 8-8 stalemate through halftime before Woodcreek scored what proved to be the game winning touchdown with two minutes to play.
Bear River’s touchdowns came via a pass from quarterback Dillon Smith to Eli Allen and on a Cody Heard touchdown run. Hayden Macklin’s extra point kicks provided the Jr. Bruins with four more key points.
In other Bear River results from last weekend, Woodcreek notched wins in the Mighty Mights, 31-6; the Jr. Peewees, 33-0; the Peewees, 22-0 and the Junior Midgets, 35-0.
Bear River plays at Oakmont on Saturday.
