Caine Lackey of the Nevada City Yankees takes a big cut at a pitch during Monday's opening round action in the District 11 majors division Tournament of Champions. The Yankees defeated the Penn Valley Giants, 7-0 in the opening round and will meet the Bear River Rockies on Thursday. All games are being played at Bear River Little League Park.

Grass Valley Cubs Trip SFLL Marlins

The District 11 major division Tournament of Champions continued at Bear River Little Park Tuesday night. After the Nevada City B team picked up a "forfeit" win over the Foresthill Giants who could not field a team for the tourney, the Grass Valley Cubs went extra innings to trim the Sierra Foothills Marlins from Colfax, 6-5.

Monday's two winners included the Nevada City Yankees who topped the Penn Valley Giants, 7-0, and the Bear River Rockies who topped the Penn Valley Dodgers, 10-0.

Action continues tonight with two games at BRLL Park starting at 5 p.m. and 7:30.
