Nevada Union's Gareth Noxon crosses the goal line for a touchdown in last Friday's Sierra Foothill League JV football game at Granite Bay. Both Noxon and Jason Murray scored second half touchdowns and freshman Clint Bielen kicked a pair of extra points as Nevada Union rallied past the host Grizzlies for a 14-13 win. Oct. 11, 2012 Miners comeback stuns GrizzliesDown 13-0 at half time, the Nevada Union JV Miners rallied behind secnd half toucdown runs from Gareth Noxon and Jason Murray and a pair of clucth extra point boots by freshman Clint Bielen to storm from behind and stun Granite Bay's Grizzlies, 14-13, in the Sierra Foothill League opener for both teams last Friday in Granite Bay. NU quarterback Michael Tapia wen led in the statistics department with an 8 for 15 passing night for 52 yards. On the ground, Jake Berger had 14 carries for 69 yards while Murray added 49 on 15 packs. Noxon also had 36 yards receiving while on defense Taylor Hart, Sam Hayward, Brandon Ennis, Nick Belforte, Kai Woo, Jakob Freele and Ryan Zuccaro all had big games. NU, now 5-1 on the seaoson, hosts unbeaten Del Oro (6-0) Fridat at Hooper Stadium. Game time is 5:15 p.m. In other JV games last weekend, Bear River JV 35, Placer 24 – The host Bruins improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Pioneer Valley League by dominating the first half to take a 28-6 lead and then putting it on cruise control the rest of the way. Bear River's Brad Botsford rushed for 119 yards and tallied three first-half touchdowns, including a 62-yarder on the game's first play from scrimmage. Michael Tipton also scored for the Bruins.
Colfax JV 41 Center 7 - Tanner Kane piled up 96 rushing yards and scored on a 45-yard run and Kyle Bryant hauled in seven passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns to spark the Falcons to the win. Now 5-1 on the season, Colfax also received stellar efforts from Michael Wilson who was 14 of 18 passing for 208 yards and four touchdowns and Austin Moore who also ran for a touchdown. On defense Alex Nevarez (interception), Nick Blake (fumble recovery) and Austin Ames (sack) also played well. Del Oro JV 42 Rocklin 20 - Dylan Kanirath scored on runs of four, eight, 33 and 49 yards last Friday to help power Del Oro past the Thunder in the SFL opener for both teams. Del Oro (6-0) received a tough test from the previously undefeated Thunder (5-1) as Rocklin trailed the Golden Eagles just 28-20 in the third quarter. However, Kainrath's 49-yard burst for six points was followed by a nifty 67-yard scoring pass form Michael Moore to Jahan Nargussi for the final three touchdown victory margin. Moore also fired a 69-yard scoring aerial to Daniel Becker to begin the scoring on the game's first play from scrimmage. Frosh Colfax Frosh 27 Liberty Ranch 7 - The Falcons' freshmen improved to 6-0 last Thursday night with the road win in Galt. Avo Shahabian ran for two touchdowns while Sam Lahaie added another. The Falcons' other score came on a pass from Logan Hurst to Carrick Hoffart. Colfax will host a 4-1 Mesa Verde team on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Mesa is coming off a 14-8 win over Pioneer Valley League team Lincoln last week. Bear River 21 Placer 7 - John Voter and Kyle Krogman scored touchdowns for the Bruins in the opening Pioneer Valley League win. Bear River imroved to 4-2 with the win while Placer is now 3-3. Placer was led offensively by Austin Hess with 95 yards on eight carries and iLogan Markstein with 77 yards on 11 trips. Hillmen quarterback Clark Pietromonaco was 7 of 16 passing for 126 yards. On defense, Markstein, Cole Blackwell, Mason Sage, Hess and Tyler Gums all had good games. Granite Bay 44 Nevada Union 32 - In a high-scoring SFL opener, the Miners were outgunned on the road by the Grizzlies. Mo Nieves as outstanding for the Miners as he rushed for 180 yards and scored 3 TDs. Travis Owens added 100 more yards and a TD. Jordan Jiannino also tossed a 10 yard scoring pass to Jordan Hodgkins. Rocklin 35 Del Oro 0 - The Thunder opened SFL action last Thursday by putting the hurt on the turnover plagued Golden Eagles.
