NU, BR JVs Both Notch Wins

See details below. obfoto.com Sept. 7 Davis leads Miners Past Ponderosa Saying that Ian Davis filled in more than admirably for injured Nevada Union JV quarterback Kyle Cota last Friday night would be a huge understatement. Playing in Shingle Springs, Davis took the reins of the Miners and produced a 208-yard rushing effort in leading NU's JV team to a 38-6 win over Ponderosa.
“It took every one of our 22 guys tonight,” said Nevada Union coach Chris Cota. “We had a lot of guys come in as subs who did a great job.” NU, 1-1, will play Friday at Monterey Trail. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
Bear River 41 Capital Christian 12 - The Bruins started out slowly but got their momentum built up for the easy win. Now 2-0 on the season, the Bruins followed a two touchdown passing night from quarterback Dillon Smith and two more scores on the ground from running back Cody Heard. Sean Harwood added another for the Bruins, rushing for his first touchdown of the season. Bear River will trek to Garden Valley Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game with Golden Sierra.
Del Oro 49 Colfax 6 - The power laden Golden Eagles opened their season with a rout of the Falcons last Thursday night in Colfax. Del Oro plays at Clovis West in Fresno on Saturday night. Colfax, which fell to 0-2, plays at Union Mine Friday in El Dorado at 5:30 p.m.
Placer 14 Bethel 14 - Defensive back Corey Schlittenhart broke up a pass on the game’s final play, preventing a winning touchdown and preserving a tie for the Hillmen (1-0-1). Running back Isaac Brahce scored one of Placer’s touchdowns. The other came on a 6-yard pass from quarterback Casey Yunk to wide receiver Jalyn Lewis. Running back Alex Graziano carried much of the load offensively for Placer, while linebacker Tony Suverkropp had two sacks on defense.
Frosh Del Oro 28 Colfax 0 - The Golden Eagles built a 14-0 lead by halftime over the Falcons and went on to play a strong second half to win their opener. Colfax's best scoring chance came in the second quarter when a drive fizzled at the DO seven-yard line. Colfax, 1-1, plays at Union Mine Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Inderkum 62 Bear River 6 - The powerful Div. II Sacramento school blasted the host Bruins, 1-1, Thursday at Lake of the Pines. Placer 48 Gridley 12 - Placer went on the road to the Mid Valley to paste the host Bulldogs. Leading the win was quarterback Logan Strange who had one touchdown pass on 5-8evening in the air. Running back Todd Valleire had 115 yards on the ground and rushed for three touchdowns and a two point conversion while Cameron Scott rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns to go with two sacks on the defensive end. Defensively, Zach Phillps, Phillip Tuttle, and Sam Queen came up big for Placer, holding Gridley to just six points until the last few minutes of the game. Placer, 1-0 , hosts Sutter Thursday at Lefebvre Stadium starting at 5:30 p.m.
