Weimar Hills 8th; FLC 7th Roll In Openers

Form held true in the first round of the Nevada County Athletic League’s boys 8th and 7th grade basketball post season tournaments which opened respectively Wednesday afternoon.

In a first round doubleheader at Forest Lake, the No. 2 seed Weimar Hills 8th grade team and the No. 3 seed Forest Lake 7th grade squad both posted impressive victories.

A full slate of games awaits fans Thursday with doubleheaders set for both Gilmore and Union Hill.

At Gilmore, the host Bombers 8th grade team takes on Union Hill in a match-up of  No. 3 and No. 6 seeds at 4 p.m. In the 5:15 p.m. second game, it will be the Plesant Valley 8th grade, the No. 4 seed, taking on 5th seed Magnolia.

Meanwhile, at Union Hill, 7th grade action pairs No. 2 Union Hill and No. 7 Pleasant Valley meeting at 4 p.m. followed by 4th seed Seven Hills and 5th seed Magnolia at 5:15.

All action then moves to Nevada Union on Friday and Saturday for second and final round action.

8th Grade

Weimar Hills 51 Forest Lake 21 – The Warriors landed 10 players into the scoring column to advance to Friday’s semi-final round. Weimar Hills led 13-6 after a quarter before extending it to 29-11 by halftime and 45-13 at the end of three quarters.

Devon Loomis, Matt Larson and Paul Ramseth all tallied eight points each for the Warriors now 23-5 overall on the season. Tim Stuck and Taylor Dorsey both added five points apiece while Austin Mulderrig, Will Buell and Clay Southerland all tallied four points each for Weimar Hills.

7th Grade

Forest Lake 36 Gilmore 13 – Chase Augustino sank 13 points and Jacob Yarborough and Luke Jordan both turned in stellar all-round games on offense and defense to help propel the Falcons into the 7th grade semi-finals.

Forest Lake will meet the winner of Thursday’s Union Hill-Pleasant Valley game Friday in the semi-finals at Nevada Union’s Ali Gym starting at 6 p.m.
