Feb. 20, 2009Weimar Hills rolls Gilmore; Gains NCAL 8th FinalThe third time proved to be the charm for the Weimar Hills boys 8th grade basketball team Friday afternoon. Shrugging off a pair of previous losses to Lyman Gilmore, the Warriors turned the tables on the Bombers by jumping out to an 11-0 lead and never looking back on their way to 47-26 semi-final win in the Nevada County Athletic League tournament being played at Nevada Union. The win moves Weimar Hills into Saturday’s 7 p.m. final. The Warriors will meet the winner of Friday’s late semi-final game between Seven Hills and Pleasant Valley. Weimar Hills, now 24-5 overall on the season, hit on six of its first seven shots in the game to build an early lead that it didn’t relinquish the rest of the way. Weimar Hills led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter, 22-13 at halftime and 29-16 going into the final stanza. Will Buell’s 22 points sparked Weimar Hills’ offense while Matt Larson added nine, Ryan Glazner scored four, Taylor Dorsey and Adam Mulderrig added three each and Devon Loomis, Chad Wolfe and Wade Lewis all scored two points each. For Gilmore, Ian Davis scored nine points and Trevor Bryant added eight. The Warriors limited Bombers scoring leader Cody Gardner to just two points. ilmore will play the Pleasant Valley-Seven Hills loser in the third place game Saturday at NU at 3 p.m.
