Rattlers, Warriors Split Pair

The Magnolia 8th Grade Lady Rattlers opened up the Nevada County Athletic League season with an exciting win over defending champions Weimar Hills, 41-35.

The Rattlers offense was led by Taylor Autrey with 16 points earned by playing hard in the paint and going hard to the basket.

Michelle Whiting and Malone Pearson tossed in 10 and 8 points respectively. Also having a hand in the win were Raquel Addessi who made two key free throws at the end of the 4th quarter with Weimar fouling to stop the clock. Addessi had a total of four points.

The entire Rattler team contributed on the stingy defense led by Jessie Meylor and Malone Pearson. The Lady Rattlers travel to Forest lake on Wednesday and Gilmore on Thursday.

Weimar Hills, 1-1 in NCAL action, was led by Sarah Stuck and Katie Garcia with eight points each and Sidney Wegener with five. Weimar Hills coach Bill Shinn also praised the defensive work and rebounding of Mackenna Glisson.

7th Grade

Weimar Hills 29 Magnolia 22 - Weimar Hills improved to 2-0 with the hard fought win on the Rattlers homecourt.

Weimar raced out to an 18-8 halftime advantage before Magnolia used a strong third quarter to close to within 21-16 heading into the pivotal fourth quarter.

However, in the final six minutes the Warriors recieved four key points apiece from Mikala Balser and Kylie Shinn to pull away for the win.

Balser's 14 points, seven from Shinn and six by Rain Lillie paced Weimar Hills. Shantel Crane led the winners in the rebounding department while Amanda Fejes and Olivia Naves turned in good floor games.
