It's Magnolia-Weimar Hills For 8th Grade Tourney Title; Gilmore-Weimar Play For 7th Crown

The Nevada County Athletic League's post season tournament action Thursday at Nevada Union High had plenty of exciting play with one big upset and one overtime game stealing the spotlight.

The upset came in the girls 7th grade division when No. 4 seed Lyman Gilmore handed previously undefeated Union Hill, the regular season champion, a 25-20 setback.

The win by the Bombers' 7th graders puts them into today's 5:10 p.m. championship game in Ali Gym against Weimar Hills.

Weimar's 7th graders used two big free throws and a basket in the late going by Kylie Kirkland to help ease past Magnolia, 28-23. Reagan Lillie's eight points and six each from Kirkland and Madison Ittner sparked Weimar which entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed.

In 8th grade action, Weimar Hills, another No. 3 seed, went overtime to take down No. 2 seed Pleasant Valley, 49-45.

Katie Thomas sank 17 points for the Lady Warriors while Cathy Harrison added 11. Also playing well for the winners were Delany Shinn, Tori Henry and Amber Tobiasz who chipped in with six points.

Weimar Hills' foe in the 8th grade title game will be Magnolia which raised its record to 16-0 win a win in its semi-final game over Union Hill.

Game time for the 8th grade championship tilt is slated for 7:20 also at the Ali Gym.
