Wildfire Stays Hot; Capture World Series Qualifier

The Nevada County Wildfire is living up to their nickname.

Setting the field ablaze last weekend, the 11 & under girls youth fast pitch softball team came out in impressive fashion by going undefeated en route to winning the Fall Frenzy USSA Qualifier held at Sacramento's Freedom Park.

With the tournament win, the Wildfire qualified for the USSSA World Series in Orlando, Fla for a second time. The Wildfire finished second in another tournament three weeks ago to earn a berth.

Wildfire Manager Steve Ramos and coaches Chris Byers and Rod Edwards cited a lot of heart and a valiant team effort which included timely contributions from every single girl on the roster as the recipe for their success.

The Wildfire was led on the mound by Cheyanne Ramos, Bailey Edwards and Nerissa Long who got things started on Sunday with a one hit 6 strikeout performance and ended the tournament by pitching a complete game in the championship.

The Wildfire went 2-0-1 on Saturday which seeded them second for Sunday's single elimination championship bracket.

Sunday brought victories over the Napa Roadrunners and the Benicia Bears 4-2 and 4-1 respectively before pulling out a hard fought 8-6 victory in the championship game over the Concord Panthers.

The Wildfire won't get much time to savor their success however as they travel Reno this weekend for their next challenge at the, "Rippin' Chicks in Reno" tournament.
