Another Shutout For NU Jr. Midgets; BR Midgets Top Vikings

Nevada Union’s Jr. Miners Jr. Midget team lifted its season record to 3-1 with a 12-0 victory over the Whitney Jr. Wildcats last Saturday in Rocklin.

On the offensive side of the ball NU fullback Johnny Callas came up big with 10 carries for 68 yards rushing and one touchdown. Callas had plenty of help from Ian Davis who carried the ball 10 times for 54 yards.

Quarterback Jason Murray also impressed at quarterback with a 2x4 afternoon with one of the completions going to Davis on a 41-yard scoring pass and the other to Gareth Noxon for another long gainer.

On the defensive side of the ball, Murray lead the Miners with seven Tackles while Mo Nieves added four stops and Noxon chipped in with a late game interception.

Game Stats:

Rushing yards – Tipton, 6; Murray, 8; Davis, 54; Callas, 68; Nieves, 28.

Passing Yards – Murray 2x4, 53 yards, 1 TD.

Tackles – Murray 7, Nieves, 4; Lopez, 3; Callas, 2; Ennis, 2; Davis, 2, Roberts, 2; Noxon, 1.

Bear River Midgets 28 Oakmont 6 - Strong offensive line work by the quintet of Aaron Cloyd, Derek Lilienthal, Conrad Ball. Alec Bergstad and Zack Winter helped pave the way for the Bear River midgest team to easily handle the Vikings.

Handling the scoring chores for the Bruins were Jake Savoie who hauled in a touchdown pass from Austin Dowling and Cody Heard with a pair of scores and Nathan Uclaray with one. One of Heard’s scores came via a 75-yard jaunt.

Also playing well were Hayden Macklin with four extra point kicks and Travis McKnight, Chris Beardsley, Ty Anthony DePalma-Shields and Dakota Stroh who helped shut down the Oakmont offense.

In addition, Dillon Smith came up with a pass interception while also solid in the win were Derek Ross, Eli Allen, Zachary Daugherty, Sean Harwood, Nick Rousseau and Shane Soria.

Bear River will play host to Placer this Saturday at Bear River High with games starting at 9 a.m. and running all afternoon.
